Gold, Cash & Smelting

Gold and Cash in Destroy a Vault, Explained

Destroy a Vault runs on two currencies: robots produce Gold, you smelt Gold into Cash, and Cash buys rolls, upgrades and base expansion.

Two currencies, one loop

The official game description states the economy in one line: “Smelt Gold and turn it into Cash.” Around it sits the full circuit:

  1. Your robot army attacks your vault and produces Gold — the raw resource, pictured in the official art as erupting gold bars.
  2. You smelt that Gold into Cash — the spendable currency.
  3. Cash buys the three growth levers: robot rolls, robot upgrades and base expansion (the official loop’s “upgrade your robots and expand your base”).
  4. A stronger army produces more Gold per hour, and the loop tightens.

The whole game is this circle spinning faster. Every guide on this site is, one way or another, about removing friction from one of its four steps.

Gold: the production side

Gold is what your army digs out of vaults. Its rate depends on the two variables you spend all game raising: army damage and vault tier. The official art shows the scale the developers want you dreaming about — a rainbow-texted $967,259,773/s earnings counter over a bursting vault. That is marketing imagery, not a measured rate, but the direction is real: income in Destroy a Vault grows by orders of magnitude, not increments.

Two habits keep Gold flowing:

  • Keep every robot deployed. Gold production is an army stat, not a solo one — empty slots produce nothing.
  • Climb vault tiers as soon as your damage allows. Higher vault tiers pay more per crack for the same army.

Cash: the spending side

Cash is the decision currency — every system wants it, so where it goes defines your build. The reliable priority for most of the game:

  1. Fill your roster — more deployed robots raise production directly
  2. Upgrade your top attacker — guaranteed damage, immediately reflected in Gold per hour
  3. Roll for rarity — the variable-cost ceiling chase (rarities guide)
  4. Expand the base — the official loop lists base expansion alongside robot upgrades as Cash’s jobs

Hoarding Cash is the one clearly wrong move. Unspent Cash is damage you did not buy, Gold you did not produce, and income you forfeited while it sat there.

Smelting: the step players forget

Smelting is trivial mechanically — convert Gold to Cash — but it is a real bottleneck when ignored. Gold sitting in piles is not earning. Smelt after every raid, spend after every smelt, and treat “Gold balance high, Cash balance flat” as a session warning sign.

Codes: free money into the loop

Codes occasionally top up your resources from outside the loop — the current ones are on the codes list. Redeem before a session, not after, so whatever lands gets reinvested immediately.

Offline earnings: the loop that runs without you

The official description confirms robots “earn Gold while you’re offline” — the loop’s production step keeps running after logout. That makes your last action each session your most leveraged: deploy your full best army, then log out. The offline earnings guide covers the cadence.
